In honour of world Nutella Day (a most brilliant invention), here is my recipe for Nutella frosting. I’ve only used it on chocolate brownies but imagine it would be fantastic on cupcakes too:

Cream together 2 cups of icing sugar (aka powdered sugar outside of Canada), 1 8-ounce package of Philadelphia cream cheese at room temperature (I use the light version), 1/2 a stick of unsalted butter and 2 tsp vanilla extract. I recommend blending the cream cheese, butter and vanilla first and adding the icing sugar slowly. Otherwise you will end up with icing sugar all over your kitchen! Then to this delicious confection, add approximately 2/3 a cup of Nutella. You can always add more, depending on your taste. The flavour of the cream cheese balances nicely with the sweetness of the Nutella.
